Day 3: London KY to Manchester KY

A relative rest day today.  Even with leaving after 9, we were still in to our destination hotel by about noon.

It was a beautiful day for a ride.  Nice weather, pretty short and not too much elevation.  But - I still felt tired.  Maybe something about being another year older.  😀   At about 5 miles we came to Levi Jackson State Park.  It was worth a bit of a visit and Cy certainly encouraged us to do so since there were not really any other points of interest to stop at along the way.

Good roads and good drivers (and no shoulders) once again.  We had our longest stretch to date on one road without turns; 15.2 miles on State Route 80 East, right to our hotel outside Manchester.  We seemed to be in a more prosperous region today.  Significantly nicer homes and yards, although still some trailers and some dilapidated barns.

The roads were in a noticeably better state of repair as well.  It was a pretty ride, although with no shoulders we spend most of our time just monitoring the traffic and line ahead.  Being Sunday, all the church parking lots were full as we passed by.

We were all in to the hotel shortly after noon.  Some went to eat; some went to check out the local history of salt licks and swinging bridges.  I was with the former.  Then back to watch the WNBA finals; congrats to the Aces.

And, of course, some recognition of the fact that it was my birthday today.  A card from all, with a special card from our resident artist, Joyce.  The scene is from Ireland, close to where I have travelled.

And after a delicious salmon dinner, there may have been some cake involved...........

All in all, another great birthday with the WomanTours folks.  Someone else's turn tomorrow, and the day after that.  Looks like a pretty tough ride on both of those days........

Stats for the day:

Distance:  27.85 miles / 44.81 km

Elevation:  1624' up, 1970' down / 495m up, 601m down

Weather:  Another perfect day.  Sunny with scattered clouds.  18C - 28C (but we were done by about noon and the temp continued to rise after that).  Seems pretty humid.
